An Overview of H5P Interactive Content

About the H5P Interactive Content

The H5P (short for HTML5 Package) is an archive that contains interactive contents such as presentations, videos and other multimedia, questions, quizzes, games, and more. H5P content can be created in the Content bank and added to your courses as an H5P activity or embedded into other activities or resources.

Installed H5P Content Types

The VLE currently supports 47 H5P content types listed below. You may click on them to view their tutorial (except for 17 content types).

  • Accordion
  • Agamotto
  • Advent Calendaran advent calendar for H5P that allows teachers to add videos, images, texts, and links to it. This content type only makes sense to use in December (for a countdown before Christmas).
  • appear.in for Chat and Talk: a free video chat and conference tool (this content is deprecated; use Zoom instead)
  • Arithmetic Quiz: used for creating quizzes to test skills in Basic Arithmetic Operations or in Linear Equations
  • Audio: used for adding an audio file
  • Audio Recorder: used for recording audio
  • Branching Scenario: used for presenting varieties of interactive content and choices. The choices the students make will determine the next content they see. It can be used to present, for example, the different art periods.

  • Column: used to organize H5P content(s) into a single column layout

  • Dialog Cards
  • Dictation: used for adding audio samples containing a sentence for dictation and transcription. The students can listen to the samples and enter what they have heard into a text field.

  • Find Multiple Hotspots: used for creating an image-based test where the student tries to find the correct answers on a question by clicking on an image

  • Find the Words: used for creating a game where students try to find and select words from a list in a grid

  • Iframe Embedder: used in creating an area for inserting custom H5P contents

  • KewAr Code: used for creating interactive QR codes
  • Mark the Words

  • Multiple Choice
  • Personality Quiz: used for creating personality quizzes. The teacher defines a series of questions with alternatives or choices, where each alternative is matched against one or more personalities. At the end of the quiz, the student will see which personality matches the best.
  • Question Set
  • Questionnaire: used for creating questionnaires which can be used as surveys or open-ended questions
  • Single Choice Set
  • Speak the Words: allows teachers to ask a question that should be answered with the student’s own voice
  • Speak the Words Set: allows teachers to make a set of questions that should be answered with the student’s own voice

  • Twitter User Feed: used for retrieving tweets from a specific Twitter username (now unusable because Twitter has discontinued support for this API)
