Understanding terms and conventions

Sections

The central column of your course main page is divided into Sections where course content and activities are shown. You can use the sections to organize your course by topic, content type, or chronology. If you choose to order your course chronologically, you can have the platform automatically provide a section per week.

 

You can put links to Resources (files, weblinks, folders, etc.), and Activities (discussion forums, assignments, quizzes, etc.) inside the sections of your course page. Labels (a type of Resource) can be used to add text, and images to sections.

Blocks

Blocks provide extra tools and features to your course. In the sidebar, you are provided with several blocks by default. When editing is turned on, you can add more blocks to your course main page by clicking Add a block.

 

When you turn on editing (by clicking the Turn Editing On button at the top right corner), you can add new blocks by clicking Add a block button. The following are the blocks that you can add to your course:

Calendar
Comments
Course completion status
Course/site summary
Courses

Feedback
Global search

Latest announcements
Latest badges
Learning plans
Logged in user
Mentees
Navigation
Online users

There are also other useful blocks you can download by visiting the http://moodle.org modules and plugins database. Some of the new blocks include YouTube, Flickr, Progress Bar, Unanswered Discussions, and Simple Clock.
