UP Tacloban Division of Humanities and Leyte Samar Heritage Center host a discussion on pandemic literature

On 16 February 2022, as part of the UP Tacloban’s celebration of the National Arts Month, Asst. Prof. Antonino De Veyra, Director of Leyte Samar Heritage Center, led a virtual discussion with guest speakers Dinah Roma (poetry), Tim Montes (fiction), and Carmie Ortego (creative nonfiction).
The talk, titled “Huruhisgutay/Tsika-LIT: Panuratan ha Panahon han Pandemya”, featured award-winning writers from Eastern Visayas, and focused on how writing during crisis can both assuage anxiety and inspire hope.

While the COVID-19 pandemic was at the forefront of the discussion, the writers also spoke more broadly about writing in times of disaster – such as after Typhoon Yolanda.
Joining the talk through Zoom and Facebook Live were over 160 participants.
