The Division of Humanities of UPV Tacloban College has launched a project entitled “Paghilom, Paglaom (To Heal and To Hope): Arts for the Healing at the Time of COVID-19” in celebration of the National Literature Month and the International Month of Poetry. The project is dedicated to health frontliners around the world, especially those who succumbed to the fight against COVID-19.
The project, which runs from 7 to 30 April, is composed of online performances, exhibits, and demonstrations showcasing the significance of the Arts in these trying times.
The Pasundayag Paghilom: Songs and Poetry Performance Video Series featuring the UP An Balangaw members with their friends and family showcases a repertoire of songs and poems in Waray to lift the spirits especially of those who are sick, grieving, anxious, angry, scared, confused, and lonely. The Paglantaw ha Sidawan: A Poetry and Photo Exhibit features the works of BA Communication Arts students from the Siday Writing Workshop conducted by the Division of Humanities with Ms. Firie Jill A. Ramos, a Waray poet and children’s book author as resource person. “Sidawan” is an amalgamation of the words “siday” (poem) and “ladawan” (Images). View the poetry and photo exhibit here.
Ato! Pag-arnis! : Basic Arnis Moves on Video features a demonstration of basic arnis moves (also known as Kali or Eskrima), the national martial art of the Philippines, by UP Tacloban Physical Education faculty members Mr. Reynaldo Flores, Mr. Aquilino Laguilles, and Ms. Jackyline Pobre. The presentation aims to promote staying active while on home quarantine through the practice of basic arnis. View the video performance here.
